Manchester University Language Centre

The University Centre for Academic English is part of the University of Manchester and is based on the main University campus. The welcoming, accessible and multicultural environment that is the city of Manchester provides the ideal base for your time studying in the UK.

The University Centre for Academic English has over 30 years’ experience of running English language courses for international students and these courses are accredited by the British Council through Accreditation UK. Our Pre-sessional courses are also accredited by BALEAP (The Global Forum for EAP Professionals). We offer 4-week, 6-week and 10-week Pre-sessional courses, available to study on-campus or online. Students are taught in small classes of up to 20 students or less, and a communicative methodology is used.

We offer a year-round, full-time English for Academic Purposes course available to study from 10 to 40 weeks with start dates available throughout the year.

We also offer a General English course available to study from 5-weeks to 30-weeks. Students will be taught in a warm, professional learning environment with well-qualified, experienced teaching staff.

Our English Summer Programme and English Winter Programme is designed for students looking for a short course during the summer and winter months which combines English language tuition with British Culture, social activities and organised trips across the UK.

The University Centre for Academic English offers a range of learning and teaching resources, including a library of multi-format materials in 80 languages; two open-access multimedia studios.

Students also have access to the wide range of facilities open to all registered University of Manchester students on campus such as the Albert Gilbert Learning Commons – a 24/7 environment for study, the University of Manchester Libraries, the Students’ Union, sports and leisure facilities and more.
