The Lake District
The Lake District National Park is world famous for its beauty and grandeur. The magnificent landscape inspired Beatrix Potter, John Ruskin and the great Romantic poets Coleridge and Wordsworth. It is an area of lakes and mountains, of quiet green valleys, hill farms and friendly villages. It is the Adventure Capital of England with many facilities for climbing, walking, mountain biking, swimming, canoeing and water sports, as well as guides, instruction and equipment rental.
And, as one of the main tourist centres in Britain, it has the facilities you would expect; cinemas, theatres, music, shops, and good transport connections. Throughout the year the area also hosts many festivals including international street theatre, film, food, dance, music, and mountaineering.
